His Excellency Mr. Kofi Sekyiamah, in his late sixties, was educated at the University of Ghana (Legon) and at the Institute of Public Administration, Greenhill, Ghana.
He joined the Ghana Foreign Service in 1964, first working at the African Affairs Secretariat. He had professional training at Oxford University, Dag Hammarskjold Institute, Uppsala, and the World Bank Economic Development Institute.
Mr. Sekyiamah’s diplomatic postings have been to Tanzania as 1st Secretary and Acting High Commissioner, the United Nations, where he was responsible for 3rd Committee matters, and Brussels, covering ACP/EEC Relations as Counsellor Minister and Deputy Head of Mission.
At the United Nations, Mr. Sekyiamah was a Member of the Human Rights Commission, Member of the Committee on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities, and Chairman of the Working Group on Violation of Human Rights, Chairman of the NGO Committee of the Economic and Social Council and at one time Vice President of the UN General Assembly.
After 20 years in the Foreign Service, Mr. Sekyiamah was seconded to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Planning as Head of International Economic Relations. He has also served at the Ministry of Trade and Industry as Director of Exports; and as Director of the Ghana Information Services Department.
His significant national assignments have been: Chairman, Ghana Millennium Commission; Vice-Chairman, National Celebration Planning Committee; Chairman, Publicity Committee, 40th Anniversary of Ghana's Independence; Chairman, Publicity Committee, visits to Ghana of President Clinton, Queen Elizabeth, President Ghadaffi, the Sultan of Brunei, etc.
International awards and assignments included: Certificate of Recognition by the UN as one-time Chairman of ECOSOC Committee on NGOs, and as Amnesty International 3rd Sean McBride Lecturer.
Mr. Sekyiamah was appointed High Commissioner to Australia from his private consultancy - Prime Events Consult - a media, public relations and events management company.
The High Commissioner's sporting interest is squash.
He is married and has three children.
