Central University College

Central University College

Introduction

Prof. V. P. Y. Gadzekpo FGA - President, Central University College
Prof. V. P. Y. Gadzekpo FGA
President, Central University College

Central University College (CUC) is the response of the International Central Gospel Church (ICGC) to the need to train transformational leaders for the nation.  Incorporated in 1998 CUC has established itself as a private tertiary institution distinct from     others in its emphasis on developing transformational leaders with high moral and ethical standards.  The University College offers Business, Arts, Science and Theology degrees.

With over 9,283 students pursuing seventeen undergraduate courses, 711 students pursuing six graduate degree programmes, and 349 full-time Faculty and Administrative staff, Central University College,  has developed with remarkable stability, and continues to grow steadily.  Student enrollment is distributed in the ratio 54% to 46% in favour of women.

Mission and Vision
The vision of Central University College is to develop effective transformational Christian leaders who apply the principles of faith, integrity and excellence to overcome the challenges and demands of modern times, and serve as a positive influence on society.  The University aims to provide an integrated and biblically based tertiary education that speaks to the needs of the African Continent, through the training and development of men and women in a variety of supportive and leadership roles to equip the Church, individuals and institutions to effectively and efficiently serve society.

Central University strives to be an academic community which integrates the Christian faith with teaching, learning, research, and college life in an environment characterized by academic excellence and a personal approach to students.

Accreditation and Affiliation
Central University is accredited by the National Accreditation Board, Ghana.  It is affiliated to the University of Cape Coast and the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.  The University is a member of the Council for Christian Colleges and Universities, USA.  The School of Theology is also a member of the West African Association of Theological Institutions (WAATI).

Curriculum
The Central University College's most notable feature is its comprehensive, reformational, and Christian approach to its mission. The curriculum reflects a belief that faith and all aspects of human culture, such as learning, vocation and social pursuits, are not isolated independent activities but are decisively woven together.  Our belief in a living God allows us to present and explore academic disciplines in an explicitly Christian context.  Transparent disciplinary boundaries allow students to experience a range of academic disciplines as well as achieve a certain level of mastery in their chosen speciality.

Central University College has five schools, namely the School of Theology and Missions (STM), the School of Business Management and Administration (SBMA), the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS), the School of Applied Sciences (SAS) and the Graduate School. Why we are different
Central University is unique in four main areas:

  • Information Technology Usage and Practice

The use of Information Technology is central to all that we do.  It is integrated into all our degree programmes. Graduating students are conversant with information technology and the various software packages in their areas of specialization.

  • French Language Proficiency

To enable our students to have a competitive edge on the job market, we have made French language study compulsory for all our students. Students are required to do a minimum of 4 semesters of French in order to graduate.

  • Worker Friendly Programme

In Central University College, we believe that the doors of tertiary education must be open to all who work hard and are capable of pursuing University education.  In view of this our programmes are flexibly structured into three main streams: morning, evening, and week-end.  Our Morning Session starts from 7.00 am and ends at 2.00 pm.  The Evening Session starts at 4.30 pm and ends at 8.30 pm.  The Week-end Sessions runs from 5.00 pm to 8.00 pm on Fridays and from 8.00 am to 8.00 pm on Saturdays.

  • Community Service

Students in Central University College participate in a community service programme during their course of study. Activities are varied and are aimed at developing a spirit of patriotism and voluntarism among students.

  • Supporting Community

The University College continues to enjoy extensive backing from its supporting constituency. The International Central Gospel Church, the University's mother institution, provides extensive support.  Many individuals (and their businesses) also show continued involvement in CUC, by sending their wards to be students, offering prayers for the institution's well-being, serving on governing bodies and other committees, and providing generous financial support.
