Her Excellency Ambassador Veronica Sharon Boakye Kufuor was born on 22nd December 1946 in Kumasi and had her secondary education at Wesley Girls' High School, Cape Coast.
She joined the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) (then Ghana Water and Sewerage Corporation) in 1970 after her graduation from the University of Ghana with BSc. (Hons) in Biochemistry. She rose through the ranks to the position of Principal Chemist/Bacteriologist.
Even as a biochemist, Ambassador Kufuor had always had the flair for the engineering aspects of water production and sewerage treatment, more especially after successfully obtaining a Postgraduate Diploma in Water and Waste-Water Engineering. This enabled her to successfully pursue that line at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia, where she obtained an MSc in Sanitary/Public Health Engineering.
Her Excellency was the first woman to be appointed Regional Director of Ghana Water Company, the state owned utility. In May 1998, while a Regional Director, she became the first professional Woman Commissioner of the then newly formed Water Resources Commission.
She has attended many professional seminars and workshops and is a member of the Ghana Science Association and the Ghana Institute of Engineers. Her hobbies include hockey, netball, dancing, movies and cooking. She is married with four children and has one grandson. In September 2001, she was appointed Ambassador to the Czech Republic.
