Hon. Akwasi Osei-Adjei
MP, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and NEPAD
HON. AKWASI OSEI-ADJEI is the Member of Parliament for Ejisu-Juaben Constituency in the Ashanti Region and currently Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and NEPAD in the NPP government. He is a businessman and an Accountant by profession.
Hon. Akwasi Osei-Adjei was born on 27th December, 1949 in Kumasi and did his 'O' level in 1969 at Kumasi Academy. He then proceeded to the Institute of Professional Studies (IPS), Legon, where he began the Chartered Institute of Management (CIMA) course. He obtained Part IV of the CIMA course at the London School of Accountancy. He had his M.Sc. Accountancy (Taxation option) from De Montford University Leceister, in the UK.
Hon. Osei-Adjei worked as an Accountant at the Overseas Trading Company and as a Financial Analyst at Reed Consultancy Services both in London. He later set up his own company, Ozze Exports Limited, in London with a subsidiary, Ozze (Ghana) Limited, in Ghana. As a businessman he pioneered the use of LPG gas as an alternative to wood fuel in Ghana, and exported Ghanaian goods to the UK market.
He has served on many public and private company boards as a non-executive member, including Ghana Cocoa Board, Divestiture Implementation Committee, Ghana National Trading Company (GNTC) Winding Up Committee, etc.
Hon. Osei-Adjei was first elected to Parliament in 1996 on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party. He was re-elected in 2000, and for a third term in 2004. During the first four years in opposition he was the Deputy Ranking Member for Trade, Industry and Tourism and also served on the House Committee on Communications and Appointments. He is currently on the House Committee on Finance and Communications and Member of the New Patriotic Party's National Council.
Between March 2001 and April 2003, Hon. Osei-Adjei served as Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry. Prior to this appointment he had served as the Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Trade, Industry and Tourism. He was appointed Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in April 2003.
