Dr. William George Mensah Brandful was born on 4th December, 1952 at Cape Coast in the Central Region of Ghana. After his secondary education at Mfantsipim School, he proceeded to the University of Ghana, Legon for a Bachelor's Degree in French. Upon graduation in 1975, he worked as a National Service tutor at Wesley Girls' High School.
Dr. Brandful joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in May, 1977 and first served at the Human Resource and Administration Bureau. Throughout the years, he has worked in various positions in the Ministry, where he rose to become Chief of Protocol (October 2000 to September 2002).
At post, he has served at the Embassies of Ghana in Cotonou, Republic of Benin, in Bonn, Federal Republic of Germany and also in Bamako, Mali as Minister Plenipotentiary and Deputy Ambassador, with oversight responsibility for the Chancery and directly in charge of matters concerning Political and Economic Relations.
Dr. William Brandful has pursued various courses at different Institutions abroad, including the University of Dakar, Senegal; University of Nairobi, Kenya; Polytechnic of Central London, England; International Institute for Public Administration in Paris, France; The Hague Academy of International Law, The Netherlands; and the University of Paris XI, France, from where he obtained a Doctorate in International Relations (January 1986).
He is married with four daughters, and as hobbies, practices photography, plays squash, tennis, and the piano.
