As the Public Relations and Information Dissemination arm of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Information, Culture and Linguistics Bureau acts to safeguard the public image of the Ministry and Ghana Missions abroad, and disseminates information and material relating to Ghana's culture, her trade and investment potentials, and her economic and political polices and programmes.
By the nature if its functions, it contributes to the promotion of better understanding between Ghana and other members of the International community. It also keeps Ghanaians abroad up to date on developments in their country and facilitates the exercise of selling Ghana abroad to promote inflows of foreign direct investment.
The Bureau is responsible for the provision of prompt and reliable information to Ghanaian nationals at home and abroad. To this end it collaborates with the Overseas Information Division of the Ministry of Information to ensure that information materials are sent to Ghana's Missions abroad for dissemination. Individual requests for information are also handled by this section, in liaison with other institutions.
The Bureau also issues press releases on behalf of the Ministry, arranges press conferences and provides assistance to visiting journalists, scholars and opinion leaders.
Additionally, the Bureau maintains and updates the Ministry's homepage and library with the requisite information. Thus it acts as a resource centre and collects useful information and documents on trade, tourism and education for dissemination.
The cultural component of the Bureau's work entails the promotion of Ghana's overall cultural image vis a vis the rest of the world through liaison with Ghana's Missions abroad, Foreign Missions accredited to Ghana and other stakeholders such as other Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) operating in Ghana. It complements the work of the National Commission on Culture (NCC) and assists the latter in negotiating cultural agreements which govern Ghana's cooperation with other countries in the area of culture.
In aid of the delicate exercise of enhancing the image of Ghana abroad and promoting friendly relations with other countries, the Bureau assists diplomatic missions, international organisations and foreign non-state actors based in Ghana by way of providing information and offering liaison services that facilitate their work.
The Linguistics section of the Bureau offers translation and interpretation resources to the Ministry and other stakeholders with which it interacts.
By the foregoing activities, the Bureau contributes to the attainment of Ghana's foreign policy objectives.
