His Excellency Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Amponsah-Ababio has been Ghana's Ambassador to the Netherlands since September 2001. She was born at Akumadan in the Ashanti Region of Ghana on December 22, 1941, and was educated at Wesley Girls High School, Cape Coast, Ghana (1955 to 1959); Kiev Polytechnic in the former Soviet Union (1961 and 1962); and the State Medical Institute of Odessa, also in the former Soviet Union (1962 to 1966). She graduated as a Dental Surgeon with specialization in Stomatology.
Prior to her ambassadorial appointment, she had held various positions within the Ghana Health Service. She was a Houseman at Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital, Kumasi, from 1967 to 1969, Senior Dental Surgeon at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, Accra, from 1972 to 1974, and Senior Dental Surgeon in charge of Ussher Town Clinic, Accra, from 1974 to 1978. In January 1979, Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Amponsah-Ababio established her own private practice and remained outside the public sector until her appointment as an Ambassador.
In both public and private practice, Dr. (Mrs.) Grace Amponsah-Ababio demonstrated a strong commitment to the ethics of her profession. Her passion for voluntary work and humanitarian service was exemplary. She was co-initiator of the "Mobile Dental Clinic" and "Social Dental Outreach" programmes in Ghana, both of which targeted deprived communities for free dental services between 1989 and 2001.
Professional and social associations to which she belongs include the Ghana Medical and Dental Council, the Ghana Medical Association, the Society of Private Medical and Dental Practitioners, the Rotary Club of The Hague, ZONTA International, and the Ghana United Nations Association (GUNSA). She is a Board Member of St. Louis Secondary School and Offinso Training College both in Ghana.
