His Excellency Mr. Kwabena Mensa Bonsu was born on 7th October, 1944. From 1962 - 1964, he had his secondary education at Opoku Ware Secondary School and Prempeh College in Kumasi.
From there, he entered the University of Ghana, Legon in 1966 and graduated with a B.A. (Honours) Degree in French and Spanish in 1970.
He furthered his education at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), and the Ghana School of Law and obtained a Diploma in Public Administration and qualifying Certificate in Law and Barrister-at-Law. He later proceeded to the Institute of Social Studies, The Hague, for a post-graduate Diploma in International Relations and Development.
Ambassador Kwabena Mensa-Bonsu joined the Ghana Foreign Service in October 1970 and left in December 1984. Whilst in the Foreign Service, he served in Ghana Missions in Ouagadougou and Kinshasa.
He was appointed Ghana's Ambassador to Togo in 2001. He is married with three children.
