His Excellency Nana Effah-Apenteng was born on 7th August, 1945 at Bompata in the Ashanti Region of Ghana. From 1959 to 1965, he had his high school education at Mfantsipim School in Cape Coast.
He entered the University of Ghana, Legon, in 1965 and graduated with a BA (Hons) in Political Science in 1968. He served as a graduate teaching assistant in the Department of Political Science from 1968 to 1970 and thereafter, obtained an MA (African Studies) in 1970.
In 1973 he furthered his education at the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA), obtaining a Diploma in Public Administration in 1974. He later proceeded to the United Kingdom for a Diploma in International Relations at Oxford University.
Ambassador Nana Effah-Apenteng joined the Ghana Foreign Service in October, 1970 and has since served in various capacities at the Ghana Missions in New York, Moscow, Rome, and Washington DC. He held different positions of responsibility in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ghana in Economic Relations, the International Organisations and Conferences Bureau, Administration Department and Non-Aligned Movement Secretariat. He represented Ghana at many international conferences and seminars, including the 27th to 29th Sessions of the Economic and Social Council, 31st to 35th and 55th to 58th Sessions of the United Nations General Assembly.
He was appointed Ghana's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York in May, 2000. From September 2001 to August 2002, he served as Chairman of the 5th Committee of the 56th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. Subsequently, he served as Co-Vice Chairman of the Ad-Hoc Working Group on the Integrated and Coordinated Implementation of and Follow-up to the Outcomes of the Major United Nations Conferences and Summits in the Economic and Social Fields.
Nana is the Paramount Chief of Bompata in the Ashanti Region. He is married with three children. His interests are reading, sports and music.
