His Excellency Dr. Kwame Bawuah-Edusei was born on 10th June, 1955 in Kumasi, Ghana, and is married with three children. He obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Biology from the University of Science and Technology, Ghana, in 1979 and a degree in Medicine from the School of Medical Science of the same University, in 1983.
He worked as a Medical Doctor at the Okomfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for two years before proceeding to the United States of America, where from 1985 to 1993 he coordinated clinical trials with the National Clinical Research Centre (NCRC), which had various Pharmaceutical Companies as clients, and rose to the rank of Manager at the East Coast. From 1993 to 1996 he undertook his medical residency in Family Medicine at Howard University Hospital in Washington DC. Subsequently, he served as a Private Physician Partner in Greenbelt Medical Centre, Maryland, until 1999. He moved on to become an Independent Physician Contractor with the Dewitt Army Hospital in Fort Belver, Virginia, USA until 2003.
Dr. Bawuah-Edusei was also a Director of Educe Incorporated, an Agro-based and Medical Company in Ghana and a Partner of the Edusei-Owusu (E.O) Group Limited, with interest in oil exploration and energy development.
Throughout his medical residency training from 1993 until his appointment, Dr. Bawuah-Edusei was Ghanaian Community leader in North America. He lobbied Congress, the State Department and the World Bank for support for the development of a vibrant and sustainable democracy in Ghana. Dr. Bawuah-Edusei has been involved in humanitarian work in Ghana through the provision of regular, free medical care to deprived communities, particularly in the Northern Region.
Until his appointment as Ghana's Ambassador to Switzerland, Austria and the United Nation Offices in Europe, Ambassador Kwame Bawuah-Edusei was running his own medical practice at the Medical Centre.
