His Excellency Mr. Leslie Kojo Christian joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as a Branch A5 Officer in September, 1975, after his studies at the University of Ghana, Legon, where he obtained Bachelors Degree (Honours) in Arts.
He was initially assigned to the Africa Bureau for a year before returning to Legon to pursue a Graduate Diploma course in International Affairs. On completion in August, 1977 he was assigned to the International Organizations and Conferences Bureau of the Ministry. In 1981, H. E. Mr. Christian was posted to the Ghana Permanent Mission in Geneva, where his duties included covering conferences and meetings of UN Specialized Agencies based in Geneva and Vienna: the ILO, WHO, UNCHR, IAEA, and UNIDO. His schedule gave him a good insight into the operations of these International Organizations and enabled him to acquire invaluable experience in conference diplomacy.
On his return to Accra in February, 1986, he worked with the Protocol Bureau of the Ministry until 1989, when he was transferred to the Finance and Accounts Division. He was simultaneously the Director of the Accra International Conference Centre.
Mr. Christian worked at the Ghana Permanent Mission in New York from September, 1997 to September, 2001 as Minister/Counsellor and Head of Chancery and later as Minister and Deputy Permanent Representative. He served as Ghana's Representative on the Third Committee (Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs) and the Fifth Committee (Financial and Administrative matters) of the United Nations.
On reporting to base in September, 2001, Mr. Christian was appointed Director of the Africa and AU Bureau and from January, 2002, acted as Chief Director of the Ministry for eight months. On 1st September, 2003, he was the Supervising Director, Political and Economic Department, responsible for overseeing the work of the Africa, Americas, Middle East & Asia, and the Economic, Trade and Investment Bureaux. He has attended a number of courses and seminars within and outside Ghana and is a United Nations Disarmament Fellow (1989). H. E. Mr. Kojo Christian has since January 2006 been working at the Ghana Permanent Mission in New York as Ambassador.
